Boylston Congregational Church, with its roots in the late 19th century, began as a Sunday school initiative by a dedicated group of Christian laymen in May 1869 at the old Boylston station of the Boston & Providence Railroad. A chapel was built on Danforth Street, supported by the Central Congregational Society in Jamaica Plain. By 1877, regular preaching meetings had started, with Rev. George W. Blagden delivering the first sermon. The Boylston Congregational Society was formed with 46 charter members, eventually acquiring land at the corner of Boylston Street and Amory Street to accommodate the growing congregation. The current sanctuary was committed on June 24, 1885. Subsequent pastors included Rev. Ellis Mendell, who served for fifteen years; Rev. Herbert A. Barke; Rev. Ronald Grabke (1988–2008); and Rev. Deryck P. Mason (2008–present).

Our community group meets for in depth study of God's word, fellowship, and prayer. Bible studies are done in sets of six lessons and are held in the home of a host. These sessions are held on Wednesdays and a series will last for six weeks. This is a great time for community building, sharing, and praying for church and community needs, and of course, delving deeper into God's word through a focused study.

At the center of our vision is the conviction that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes and that every malady and grief is addressed and substantially healed in this gospel. We long to see transformation in the city through the outgrowth of lives as they are renewed by the Holy Spirit. We are convinced that only the good news of the love of God expressed in the death and resurrection of Jesus is capable of accomplishing such radical renewal in Boston. Although many ministries will flow out of the church, our first priority is the proclamation of the good news of Jesus. We believe Christians are real sinners with real problems, but the truth of the limitless grace of God towards those he loves will change everything as it courses through our community.
“This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”
(Psalm 118:24, NKJV)
